ChanelMedium Half Moon Chain Shoulder Bag

Q: What fits inside the Chanel Half Moon Chain Shoulder Bag (Medium)?
A: With approximate measurements of 40 × 21 × 4 cm, this slim crescent silhouette is ideal for essentials: a large smartphone, continental wallet or cardholder, keys, slim sunglasses in a soft case, passport and a small cosmetics pouch. An A5 diary/notebook fits; an 11-inch tablet and a 500 ml bottle are generally too bulky due to the curved zip opening and 4 cm depth. For certainty, compare your items to our Measurements or ask us for a tailored fit check.

Q: Can I wear it crossbody? Is the strap adjustable?
A: This style has a single chain strap with an approximate 55 cm drop on this piece. It is not adjustable. On most wearers it carries comfortably on the shoulder and can sit as a high crossbody depending on height and layers. If you’d like exact on‑body photos or measurements, just ask and we’ll confirm for you.

Q: How secure is the closure and what is the interior layout?
A: The bag closes with a top zip for everyday security. Inside, you’ll find a black fabric‑lined compartment with one zipped pocket. The slim, curved opening helps the bag sit neatly under the arm; for commuting, we recommend keeping valuables in the interior zip pocket and the bag upright.

Q: What leather is this and how should I care for it?
A: This piece is described as black leather (our Model Variant notes lambskin). Keep it dry and away from oils and dyed fabrics (dark denim may transfer). Wipe with a soft, dry cloth; condition smooth leather sparingly with a suitable neutral product after testing on a discreet area. Store the bag upright, lightly padded, in a breathable dust bag, and tuck the chain inside wrapped in soft tissue/felt to prevent imprints.

Q: Is the gold‑tone hardware real gold‑plated?
A: Many earlier vintage Chanel bags featured 24‑carat gold‑plated hardware, while later models use gold‑tone finishes without precious plating. This listing specifies gold‑tone hardware and notes visible tarnish/scratches—normal signs of vintage wear. Avoid metal polishes on plated hardware; wipe gently with a soft cloth only.

Q: Where are the brand markings and codes, and how is dating handled?
A: Authentic Chanel bags typically have “CHANEL” and a country of origin heat‑stamp inside (this piece is Made in Italy). Vintage and pre‑2021 pieces include a hologram serial sticker (often with a matching authenticity card when still present). From 2021 onward, Chanel replaced stickers/cards with an embedded metal plate containing a microchip. We can share close‑ups and help interpret the serial for this item on request.

Q: Is this a current model?
A: The Timeless/“Half Moon” chain shoulder styles are considered vintage‑era Chanel and are primarily found on the pre‑loved market today rather than in current seasonal collections. Availability varies by year and configuration, which is why well‑kept examples are sought after by collectors.

Q: Can Chanel service or repair this bag?
A: Chanel offers after‑sales care and repairs through its service programme, subject to assessment and parts availability. Turnaround time and costs vary by region and by the work required. For cleaning or minor restoration of vintage pieces, reputable independent leather specialists are another option—we’re happy to advise.

Q: How do you authenticate this item?
A: Every item at A Retro Tale is rigorously vetted by our in‑house experts via multi‑point checks of materials, stitching, hardware, stamps, serial sticker/microchip era details and overall construction. We stand behind the authenticity of every item we sell and can provide additional photos or video on request.

Q: What accessories are included with this listing?
A: Please refer to the Accessories field on this page. For this piece, we list a serial number tag; if an accessory (e.g., box, dust bag, authenticity card for older pieces) isn’t mentioned there, it isn’t included—just let us know if you’d like us to confirm.
