HermèsEpsom Evelyne TPM Bag

Q: What typically fits inside the Hermès Evelyne TPM?
A: With approximate measurements of 18 × 17 × 5 cm, it’s ideal for daily essentials: a large smartphone (including most Pro/Max models), a compact wallet or cardholder, keys, slim sunglasses in a soft case, wireless earbuds and a lipstick. A passport fits; an A5 notebook and a 500 ml water bottle generally do not sit fully inside. If you’d like a tailored fit check, just ask and we’ll test this exact piece.

Q: Will it fit an iPhone Pro Max or a small tablet/e‑reader?
A: An iPhone Pro/Max typically fits comfortably. Compact tablets (e.g., iPad mini/Kindle) are usually too tall or bulky due to the 18 cm height and narrow 5 cm depth; very slim devices without a thick case may fit diagonally but it’s a snug fit. Share your device’s measurements and we’ll confirm against this bag.

Q: Is the strap adjustable, and can I wear it crossbody?
A: The TPM strap is generally non‑adjustable. This specific piece has a single flat shoulder strap with an approximate 56 cm drop for comfortable shoulder or crossbody wear. If you’d like advice on how it will sit on your frame (over coats, across the body, etc.), we’re happy to help.

Q: How secure is the closure and what is the interior like?
A: The Evelyne features a snap‑button leather tab closure and a single main compartment with a suede‑like interior. The TPM size typically does not have an exterior pocket. For commuting or travel, we recommend keeping the bag upright and using a small zip pouch for valuables.

Q: Why does the Evelyne have a perforated ‘H’, and which way should I wear it?
A: The perforated ‘H’ was originally functional—allowing airflow for equestrian grooming tools—and was intended to be worn facing the body. Today most people wear the ‘H’ outward as a design detail. Both ways are correct; choose what feels natural for you.

Q: What does TPM mean and how does it compare to other Evelyne sizes?
A: TPM stands for “Très Petit Modèle” (very small model) and is also referred to as Evelyne 16. Other common sizes include 23, 29 (PM), 33 (GM) and 40 (TGM). The TPM is the most compact and is designed for essentials rather than large loads.

Q: What is Epsom leather and how durable is it?
A: Epsom is Hermès’ embossed calfskin noted for its structured look, light weight and excellent scratch resistance. It holds its shape well over time, making it ideal for small, structured styles like the Evelyne TPM. As with all natural leather, it isn’t waterproof—avoid heavy rain.

Q: How should I care for the Epsom leather and palladium‑plated hardware?
A: Keep the bag away from moisture, oils and prolonged sunlight; be mindful of colour transfer from dark denim onto lighter leathers. Wipe with a soft, dry cloth; use a high‑quality neutral leather conditioner very sparingly and test on a discreet area first. Store upright, lightly stuffed, in a breathable dust bag, and avoid abrasive contact to minimise hairline scratches on the hardware.

Q: Is the Evelyne TPM still produced, and why can it be hard to find?
A: The Evelyne line remains in production, with the TPM/16 released in select colours and leathers. Boutique availability is limited and varies by season and store, so many clients source through the pre‑loved market to secure specific configurations like Epsom.

Q: Where are Hermès blind stamps/date codes found on an Evelyne, and how is authenticity guaranteed?
A: Hermès uses discreet blind stamps that indicate the year and workshop; on the Evelyne they’re typically located under the pull‑through tab of the closure or on/near the strap (placement can vary by year). This listing notes the stamp is illegible; regardless, every item at A Retro Tale undergoes rigorous multi‑point authentication by our in‑house experts—assessing materials, stitching, hardware, stamps and overall construction. Accessories included with this piece: none, as stated under “Accessories.”
