Louis VuittonDamier Thames GM Bag

Q: Is the Thames GM still produced by Louis Vuitton?
A: No. The Thames line is a discontinued style and is now found primarily on the pre‑owned market. Availability today is through trusted resale platforms and vintage specialists rather than Louis Vuitton boutiques.

Q: What typically fits inside this Thames GM?
A: With an approximate footprint of 38 × 22 × 5.5 cm, it comfortably holds a long wallet, smartphone, keys, a compact umbrella, sunglasses case, small cosmetics pouch and a tablet up to around 11 inches. Due to its slim depth and curved top zip, it is not designed for A4 folders or most laptops.

Q: Is the strap adjustable and can it be worn crossbody?
A: The single shoulder strap is adjustable for drop and comfort (about 23 cm on this piece), but it is a shoulder bag by design. The strap length is generally not long enough for true crossbody wear on most frames.

Q: What does the date code SP3078 indicate on this bag?
A: SP denotes manufacture in France. For codes used in this era, the 1st and 3rd digits indicate the week and the 2nd and 4th indicate the year. Therefore, SP3078 corresponds to the 37th week of 2008 in France.

Q: What comes with this item?
A: This piece includes a dust bag. Everything included is listed in the product information section on this page; if it is not listed there, it is not included.

Q: What is the material and how durable is it?
A: The exterior is Louis Vuitton’s Damier Ebene coated canvas with dark brown leather trim and gold‑tone hardware. Coated canvas is robust and water‑resistant for daily use, while the leather trim and glazing still benefit from sensible care to minimise wear.

Q: How should I care for Damier Ebene coated canvas and the leather trim?
A: Wipe the canvas with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry it gently; avoid alcohol‑based products, oils and harsh cleaners. Keep away from prolonged sunlight and from contact with colour‑transfer‑prone materials. For the leather trim, avoid saturation and store the bag loosely stuffed in its dust bag to help maintain shape.

Q: Can Louis Vuitton service or repair this discontinued model?
A: Yes. Louis Vuitton offers repair services in‑store and via their online repair process; feasibility and costs are assessed case‑by‑case and depend on parts availability. The brand does not sell loose spare parts, so repairs are handled directly through Louis Vuitton.

Q: How do you authenticate this bag?
A: Every item at A Retro Tale undergoes multi‑point checks by our in‑house experts, including materials, stitching, hardware, heat stamps, and date codes, and is backed by our authenticity guarantee. We are happy to provide additional photos or information on request.
