CelineArc de Triomphe Brooch

Q: What does the Arc de Triomphe motif represent on this brooch?
A: The interlocking C motif, known as the Triomphe, was inspired by the chain links that encircle Paris’s Arc de Triomphe in the early 1970s. It became a signature of Céline and appears across vintage jewellery from this era.

Q: What is this brooch made of—solid gold or plated?
A: It is crafted from gold‑plated metal. Most vintage Céline jewellery from the period was designed in quality gold‑plated base metal rather than solid gold, offering a rich gold look with good durability when properly cared for.

Q: When was this piece made and where?
A: This is a vintage piece from 1991 with Italy as the country of origin, consistent with many Céline jewellery items from the time. Stamps on vintage pieces can vary, but typically include the brand signature and country of manufacture on the reverse.

Q: How big is it and where does it sit best when worn?
A: Please refer to the Measurements on this page for exact dimensions. Thanks to its proportion, it wears beautifully on blazer lapels, coat collars, knitwear, scarves and hats, and can also be styled on the strap or flap of a structured bag.

Q: Will the pin damage delicate fabrics?
A: To minimise marks, pin through thicker areas or seams, or place a small felt backing behind the fabric to distribute pressure. Avoid very delicate silks and ultra‑fine knits, and always ensure the safety catch is fully closed before wear.

Q: Can I wear it as a pendant on a necklace?
A: Yes—use a brooch‑to‑pendant converter that slides over the pin so you can hang it on a chain. This accessory is not included; please see the product information section for what is supplied.

Q: How should I care for the gold‑plated finish?
A: Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth after wear, and avoid contact with water, perfumes, lotions and household chemicals. Store it separately in a pouch or box to reduce friction and preserve the plated surface.

Q: What is included with this item?
A: The piece is sold as shown. Any items supplied with the purchase are listed in the product information section. If an item (such as a dust pouch) is not listed there, it is not included.

Q: How do you authenticate this brooch?
A: Every item at A Retro Tale undergoes multi‑point authentication by our in‑house experts, who inspect materials, construction, stamps and period‑correct details. We stand behind the authenticity of all items we sell and can share additional photos or details on request.

Q: Can the plating or clasp be refreshed in future?
A: A professional jeweller can usually tighten a clasp and, if desired, re‑plate gold‑plated pieces. Any restoration should be performed by an experienced specialist to maintain the vintage character and value of the piece.
