Christian DiorBoston Bag

Q: What typically fits inside the Christian Dior Boston Bag?
A: With approximate measurements of 36 × 24 × 21 cm, it comfortably carries a 13-inch laptop in a slim sleeve, a long wallet, phone, small cosmetics pouch, sunglasses case, keys, and a 500 ml bottle. Capacity varies depending on how you pack—please refer to the measurements and photos on this page for guidance.

Q: Does this bag come with a shoulder strap?
A: This example is the classic handheld Boston with dual rolled leather handles and an approximate 10 cm handle drop. It is designed to be carried in hand or on the forearm and does not include a shoulder strap.

Q: Can I add a strap to wear it on the shoulder or crossbody?
A: If the bag has built‑in D‑rings, a compatible detachable strap can be used; many vintage Bostons were produced without D‑rings. Avoid clipping a strap directly to the handles, as this can stress the leather. If you wish to explore retrofit options, consult a professional leather specialist—modifications may affect collectability.

Q: How do Christian Dior date codes work and where might I find one?
A: Most vintage Dior bags include a code made up of letters and numbers, typically located on the reverse of the leather brand tag or on a small leather tab inside a pocket. Formats vary by era (for example, early 2000s pieces often show two letters followed by four numbers), and on some older items the code may be missing or no longer legible. If you’d like us to look for a code on this piece, please contact us.

Q: How do you authenticate this bag?
A: Every item at A Retro Tale is carefully vetted by our in‑house experts using multi‑point checks of materials, stitching, hardware, stamps, and date codes where present. We stand behind the authenticity of all items we sell and can provide additional details on request.

Q: How should I care for Diorissimo‑embossed leather?
A: Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth after use. Keep the bag away from prolonged sunlight, heat, moisture, and oils. Do not use harsh cleaners. Store it loosely stuffed with acid‑free tissue in a breathable dust bag, and avoid over‑loading to prevent stress on the leather and zip.

Q: There is light cracking on some leather details—what is the best way to handle this?
A: Minor surface cracking can occur with age. Avoid bending or flexing the affected areas, keep them clean and dry, and condition sparingly with a high‑quality neutral leather conditioner. For any restoration beyond light conditioning, seek help from a reputable luxury handbag care specialist.

Q: The interior has a faint vintage scent—will it fade and how can I reduce it?
A: This often softens with time. Air the bag in a cool, dry, shaded space. Place odour‑absorbing sachets nearby (not in direct contact) and replace them regularly. Avoid perfumes, disinfectant sprays, or essential oils, which can stain fabrics and leather. For persistent odours, a professional handbag spa can help.

Q: What items are included with this piece?
A: Everything included is listed under the product information on this page. If an item such as a dust bag, lock, key, or receipt is not listed there, it is not included.

Q: Where was this Boston bag made?
A: This piece is labelled Italy. Dior leather goods are crafted in Europe, and the country of origin can vary by model and year.
