ChloéMedium Paddington Bag

Q: What typically fits inside the Medium Paddington?
A: With its slouchy shape and approximate measurements of 36 × 14 × 20 cm, it comfortably carries daily essentials such as a long wallet, phone, keys, sunglasses, a small cosmetics pouch, a compact umbrella or 500 ml bottle, and a small tablet. Capacity varies with how you pack—please refer to the Measurements on this page for exact dimensions.

Q: Will it fit A4 documents or a laptop?
A: Due to the bag’s height and the zip opening, it is not ideal for A4 folders or most 13-inch laptops. Slim papers may fit when folded; a small tablet or e-reader is a better everyday fit.

Q: Is the Paddington considered heavy?
A: Yes. Original mid‑2000s Paddingtons are known for their substantial feel because of the weighty padlock and robust hardware. If you prefer a lighter carry, many owners remove the padlock and store it in the dust bag when not needed.

Q: Does the padlock actually work, and how do I use it?
A: The padlock is both decorative and functional. To secure the bag, align the two zip pulls at the centre and pass the padlock shackle through their eyelets; use the key to lock or unlock as needed. For convenience, many users keep it unlocked during daily use.

Q: Does this bag come with a shoulder strap?
A: The classic Medium Paddington is designed for hand or crook‑of‑arm carry with dual rolled handles and typically does not include a long shoulder strap. The handle drop on this piece is approximately 18 cm.

Q: What accessories are included with this item?
A: As listed under Accessories, this piece comes with a dust bag and the original lock and key. If an accessory isn’t listed there, it isn’t included—feel free to contact us for confirmation.

Q: How can I tell an authentic Paddington?
A: Key signs include supple, non‑uniform grained leather; a weighty, matte‑finish padlock with crisp Chloé engraving and correctly oriented keyhole; neat, even stitching; and interior markings such as a date code and made‑in stamp. Zipper markings and lining details can vary by year. Every item at A Retro Tale is carefully authenticated by our experts before listing.

Q: How should I care for the grained leather and hardware?
A: Wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth and allow to dry naturally; condition sparingly with a neutral leather cream a few times per year; avoid saturation, oils and prolonged sunlight; store the bag loosely stuffed in its dust bag to maintain shape; and keep the padlock wrapped or removed to minimise scratches on the leather.

Q: When was the Paddington introduced, and is this bag considered vintage?
A: The Paddington debuted for the Spring/Summer 2005 collection and became an early‑2000s icon. This piece is a vintage, pre‑owned example of that classic design.

Q: What if I lose the key or need to replace the padlock?
A: Replacement keys and locks may be obtainable via Chloé after‑sales or reputable resellers; note that keys are matched to specific locks, so sets typically need to be replaced together. We recommend professional assistance to ensure compatibility and preserve the bag’s value.
