Louis VuittonNew Wave MM Chain Bag

Q: What typically fits in the Louis Vuitton New Wave MM Chain Bag?
A: With approximate measurements of 25 × 15 × 7 cm and two internal compartments, it comfortably carries a large smartphone, small or compact wallet, keys, slim sunglasses, and a few cosmetics. It is not designed for tablets or A5 notebooks. Please refer to the Measurements on this page for exact dimensions.

Q: Can I wear it crossbody as well as on the shoulder?
A: Yes. The sliding chain strap with a leather shoulder pad allows for short-shoulder or long-shoulder wear and true crossbody carry. On this piece, the strap drop is approximately 32 cm when doubled and 55 cm when worn long, making it versatile for day-to-night use.

Q: What is the bag made from?
A: The New Wave MM is crafted from quilted calf leather with gold-tone hardware. This example has a black microfiber lining with two internal compartments, a sliding chain strap with a leather pad, and a top handle featuring the multicolour Vuitton signature.

Q: How secure is the closure and how is the inside organised?
A: It features a flap with an LV push-lock style closure for quick, secure access. Inside, the layout is divided into practical sections to keep essentials organised during daily wear.

Q: When was the New Wave line introduced and is this model still available in boutiques?
A: Louis Vuitton introduced the New Wave collection in 2018. Availability of specific sizes and colours varies by season; the MM Chain Bag is widely sought after on the pre-loved market and availability in current boutiques can vary.

Q: What does the date code MI4148 mean on this item?
A: For Louis Vuitton pieces produced between 2007 and early 2021, the four digits represent week and year: the first and third digits are the week and the second and fourth digits are the year. Therefore, 4148 indicates production in the 44th week of 2018. The letters typically denote the factory code. Note that from 2021 onward, Louis Vuitton replaced visible date codes with embedded microchips on new production.

Q: How should I care for the quilted calf leather?
A: Wipe with a soft, dry cloth after use, avoid overfilling to preserve the quilting, keep away from water and oils, and store stuffed in a breathable dust bag, away from direct sunlight and heat to help maintain the leather’s shape and colour.

Q: What is included with this item?
A: Please see the product information on this page. For this piece, a box and brand booklets are included. If an item is not listed there, it is not included.

Q: How do you authenticate this bag?
A: Every item at A Retro Tale is carefully authenticated by in-house experts through multi-point checks of materials, stitching, hardware, stamps, and production codes, supported by specialist tools and industry knowledge. We stand behind the authenticity of all items we sell and can provide further details upon request.
