Louis VuittonEpi Monceau Bag

Q: What typically fits inside the Monceau 28 in Epi leather?
A: With approximate measurements of 28 × 23 × 6 cm, it holds daily essentials such as a large smartphone, continental wallet, keys, A5 diary/notebook, slim sunglasses in a soft case and a small cosmetics pouch. It does not comfortably fit A4 documents or a 13-inch laptop.

Q: Can I wear it cross-body?
A: Yes. This piece includes a detachable, adjustable shoulder strap; with an approximate drop of 54 cm on this item, it can be worn on the shoulder or cross-body for most heights.

Q: How does the S-lock work and are keys included?
A: Press the two side buttons to release the S-lock and close it by pushing the clasp until it clicks. This bag comes with its keys, as listed under Accessories.

Q: What does the date code SR0033 mean?
A: Louis Vuitton used a two-letter, four-digit code in the early 2000s. “SR” indicates a French factory and “0033” decodes to March 2003, confirming this vintage piece was made in France in that month and year.

Q: Is Epi leather durable and weather-resistant?
A: Epi is a dyed-through, textured leather known for its structure and resilience. It resists light rain and surface scratches better than many smooth leathers, making it ideal for everyday use.

Q: How should I care for vintage Epi leather and the hardware?
A: Wipe the exterior with a soft, slightly damp cloth and allow to air-dry. Avoid harsh chemicals, oils or alcohol-based cleaners. Store loosely stuffed in a breathable dust bag away from heat and direct sunlight. For hardware, gently buff with a soft cloth; avoid abrasive metal polishes that can strip the gold-tone finish.

Q: Will a tablet fit?
A: Compact tablets up to around 8–9 inches (for example, an iPad mini) fit comfortably. Full-size tablets around 10–11 inches are generally too tall for the 23 cm interior height.

Q: Are sticky or peeling pockets an issue with vintage LV bags?
A: Some vintage Louis Vuitton linings or pockets can become sticky or peel with age and humidity. If you notice this, avoid storing delicate items in the affected pocket and consider professional restoration or cleaning advice.

Q: Can I replace or swap the strap?
A: The strap is detachable, so you can use a compatible Louis Vuitton or quality third‑party strap. Colour and hardware tone may vary from the original, so choose carefully to maintain the bag’s look and balance.

Q: How does A Retro Tale authenticate this item?
A: Every piece is vetted by our in‑house experts using multi‑point checks of materials, stitching, stamps, hardware and date codes. We stand behind the authenticity of all items we sell and are happy to provide additional details on request.
