ChanelCaviar Grand Shopping Tote Bag

Q: What typically fits inside this Chanel Caviar Grand Shopping Tote Bag?
A: With approximate measurements of 34 x 23 x 12 cm, this tote is well suited to daily essentials such as a long wallet, phone, keys, sunglasses, a cosmetics pouch and a small umbrella. Its structured shape also makes it practical for carrying a tablet and other slim day-to-day items. Please refer to the Measurements on this page for the exact size of this specific bag.

Q: Can this bag fit a laptop?
A: A slim 13-inch laptop may fit very snugly depending on its exact dimensions and case, but this style is generally better for lighter everyday essentials than for carrying a heavy laptop on a regular basis. If you plan to use it for work, we recommend comparing your device measurements carefully with the bag measurements listed on this page.

Q: Is the Chanel GST a good everyday bag?
A: Yes. The Grand Shopping Tote is especially popular as an everyday option because it combines a structured silhouette with a roomy interior, shoulder-friendly straps and practical organisation. It is one of Chanel’s best-known tote styles for day-to-day use.

Q: Is caviar leather durable?
A: Yes. Chanel’s caviar leather is prized for its textured finish, better scratch resistance and ability to hold its shape well compared with smoother leathers. That makes it a popular choice for regular use, while still benefiting from careful handling and storage.

Q: Does the beige colour need extra care?
A: Yes. Light-coloured caviar leather is generally easier to maintain than delicate smooth leather, but beige tones can still pick up colour transfer from dark clothing such as denim. To help preserve the finish, avoid prolonged contact with dark fabrics, moisture, direct sunlight and overfilling.

Q: Is this bag comfortable to carry on the shoulder?
A: This bag has dual chain-link and leather shoulder straps with an approximate strap drop of 23 cm, which is typically comfortable for shoulder carry. It should sit neatly under the arm and work well with most everyday outfits and light outerwear.

Q: Is the Chanel Grand Shopping Tote still made by Chanel?
A: No. The GST has been discontinued, which is one reason it remains highly sought after on the vintage and second-hand market. Its classic shape, practical size and durable leather have helped it stay popular with collectors and everyday users alike.

Q: What year is this bag from?
A: Based on the serial number 17664208, this bag was most likely produced around 2012 to 2013. Chanel serial numbers indicate a production window rather than an exact calendar date, so they are best used as an approximate dating reference alongside other authenticity details.

Q: What is included with this item, and what is its condition?
A: The product information lists the serial number as present. If another item is not listed in the product information, it should not be assumed to be included. This bag is described as being in Very Good overall condition, with very light signs of use on the exterior, light signs of use inside, and shiny hardware with light scratches.
