ChanelClassic Patent Medium Double Face Hobo Bag

Q: What fits inside the Chanel Classic Patent Medium Double Face Hobo Bag?
A: With measurements of approximately 25 x 16 x 6 cm, this bag is best suited to daily essentials such as a phone, small wallet, keys, lipstick, sunglasses and a few slim extras. It is a medium-sized shoulder bag rather than a large carry-all, so bulkier items like a tablet, bottle or large purse may be too much.

Q: Can this bag be worn crossbody?
A: No. This model has a single flat shoulder strap with an approximate handle drop of 12 cm, so it is designed to sit on the shoulder or tuck neatly under the arm rather than be worn crossbody.

Q: Is patent leather practical for everyday use?
A: Patent leather gives the bag a glossy, polished finish and is generally easy to wipe clean after light use. Black patent is often considered a practical vintage choice because it tends to hide yellowing better than lighter patent shades, although it can still show fingerprints, smudges and light surface scratches in strong light.

Q: How should I care for this patent leather Chanel bag?
A: Gently wipe the surface with a soft, dry or barely damp cloth and avoid creams or treatments that could alter the finish. Store it upright in the dust bag, lightly stuffed to help maintain its shape, and keep it away from direct sunlight, humidity, dark fabrics and printed materials that may transfer colour onto the patent surface.

Q: What does the serial number tell me about the age of the bag?
A: Chanel used 7-digit serial stickers from 1986 to 2005. A 4-series serial number such as 4157423 generally places production around 1996 to 1997, which is consistent with this being a vintage Chanel piece.

Q: Is the serial number alone enough to confirm authenticity?
A: No. The serial number is helpful for dating, but it should always be considered alongside materials, stitching, quilting alignment, hardware, stamps and overall craftsmanship. Every item at A Retro Tale is professionally authenticated before sale.

Q: What is included with this item?
A: This bag comes with its serial number sticker and a dust bag. The complete included set is listed under the product information on this page.

Q: What is the condition of this particular bag?
A: This piece is listed in very good condition. The exterior shows a light trace of use with light wear under the strap, the interior shows a light trace of use, and the hardware remains shiny with light surface scratches.

Q: Where was this bag made?
A: The country of origin label for this bag is France.
