CelineHorse Carriage Shoulder Bag

Q: What typically fits inside this Céline Horse Carriage Shoulder Bag?
A: With approximate dimensions of 24 × 15 × 6 cm, it comfortably holds a smartphone, a compact wallet or cardholder, keys, lipstick, and sunglasses in a soft pouch. Larger phones fit horizontally. Capacity varies with how you pack—please refer to the Measurements on this page for exact sizing.

Q: Can the strap be worn crossbody?
A: The single strap is adjustable to around 37 cm in drop and is designed primarily for shoulder carry. Most users will find it too short for true crossbody wear.

Q: What does the horse-and-carriage buckle signify?
A: Often called the Sulky logo, the horse-and-carriage emblem is a historic Céline motif introduced in the late 1960s and widely seen through the 1970s–1980s. It appears on many vintage pieces and has been revisited in recent collections, making this clasp a signature heritage detail.

Q: Does this vintage bag have a serial number or date code, and where would I find it?
A: Céline uses date codes rather than unique serial numbers. On many bags you’ll find a code in the format X-XX-####, usually stamped on the lining or on a small leather tab inside a pocket. On older vintage pieces, formats may vary or be harder to locate. Date codes are not unique and can repeat across items.

Q: How do you authenticate this item?
A: Every piece at A Retro Tale is vetted by our in-house experts through multi-point checks of materials, stitching, hardware, heat stamps and date codes. We stand behind the authenticity of all items we sell and can share additional photos or details on request.

Q: What accessories are included with this bag?
A: This item comes with a dust bag and a mirror. Anything included is listed under Accessories; if an item isn’t listed there, it is not included.

Q: What should I expect from the condition of this vintage bag?
A: It is in very good vintage condition with scuff marks on the corners and a few scratches to the leather and hardware as noted. The interior shows light signs of use and may have a typical vintage scent. Please review the photos and Condition notes for full details.

Q: How should I care for the leather and hardware?
A: Wipe the leather with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry immediately; avoid harsh cleaners and prolonged exposure to moisture, heat or direct sunlight. Store the bag lightly stuffed in its dust bag to maintain shape, and avoid overfilling to protect the flap and clasp. Use a clean, dry cloth to gently buff the gold-tone hardware.

Q: Is there any way to reduce a vintage smell?
A: Air the bag in a cool, dry room away from direct sunlight, and store with odour-absorbing sachets (such as activated charcoal) placed near, not directly on, the leather. Avoid spraying fragrance or using oils inside the bag, as these can stain the lining.

Q: Where was this bag made?
A: This piece was made in Italy, consistent with many vintage Céline leather goods.
